Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers today announced that he is advancing a holistic plan to address the impact the drug crisis is having on Snohomish County residents and businesses. Today the Pandemic has largely passed but the opioid issues are bigger than ever. Over the past couple of years Fentanyl has far surpassed heroin’s impact and overdose deaths have exploded. In 2020 the Pandemic struck and the responsibilities of that group shifted to addressing that situation. Back then the Emergency Management System established formal processes around the work of the Opioid Multi-Agency Coordination Group (MAC Group). At that time the opioid crisis had heroin as the major concern. In 2017 Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers directed the activation of Snohomish County’s Emergency Management System to coordinate the response to the opioid epidemic.
